PTA Planning Discussions
At the March PTA meeting parents and staff brainstormed programming ideas for our young and growing program. View the complete list of ideas generated at the March meeting.
Have we missed anything?
Here is your chance to chime in. Help use prioritize programming ideas by responding to this survey. Responses due by Tuesday 4/17/2018. Three survey respondents will be selected in a drawing for a free spirit wear item of their choice.
At the April 19th PTA meeting we will review and select the ideas that have the most support and identifying people who are willing to help make them happen.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the read-a-thon this year. Together we raised over $10,000 for our new library. Thank you to those who donated and gift cards for prizes.
Teacher Grants & Wawayaya
One of the most exciting programs sponsored by the PTA this year have been grant funds for teachers. We allocated $4000 to fund teacher lead initiatives. These funds have been used to purchase book bags are for all Kindergarten classrooms. It is also funding the school wide subscription to Wawayaya, a digital library of Chinese books grouped by reading level. You should have received Wawayaya login information from your child's teacher at conferences. If not, please contact your child's teacher so you can take advantage of this resource.
Zero Waste Coordinator
As many of you know, Michael Stoick has been a champion of zero waste events at Jie Ming these past few years. We are excited to announce that he is poised to take it a step further. Michael is in discussion with the school district to make Jie Ming a zero waste pilot program. If you would like to know more about zero-waste recycling and what it means to be a zero-waste pilot school please reach out to Michael on Konstella. Helping hands and ideas are always welcome.
On the evening of May 18th, the Jie Ming community will come together to celebrate another great year. Join us for a family gathering with food, face paint, bounce houses, and more. Contact Janice Roller on Konstella if you are available to help with the planning of the event.

We would love to have your help!
With the shift to a 9:30am start time in the fall of 2018, many Jie Ming families are wondering how they will manage before and after school logistics. Discovery Club is one option for before and/or after school care for Jie Ming students.
For 2018-19, Discovery Club plans to accommodate Jie Ming students at the Highland Elementary site. This is based on the assumption that there will not be enough Jie Ming families to justify a separate Discovery Club site at the Homecroft building. We would need approximately 45 students to sign up for before and after school care for Discovery Club to consider starting new site at Homecroft.
So, if you are planning to use Discovery Club next year, please register soon so program organizers can plan accordingly. Having before and after school care on-site will bring parents into our new school on a daily basis, which will make our community stronger.
