Moving out...help needed
At the May 17th PTA meeting we will review and select the ideas that have the most support and identifying people who are willing to help make them happen.
Boxes have been ordered. Starting the week of May 14, teachers will begin packing up their classrooms in preparation for the move to Homecroft. Look for a volunteer signup for parents to assist with the packing up of classrooms (or contact Principal Johnson directly).
Moving in...help needed
Homecroft will be renovated over the summer. Teachers will not have an opportunity to move into their new classrooms until the end of August. Look for a volunteer signup for parents to assist with unpacking and classroom setup.
Becca Pryse is looking to schedule another Homecroft site visit so parents can visit the school before the end of the school year and renovations begin. She also hopes to recruit volunteers who will host play dates at the Homecroft playground over the summer, perhaps one a month. Contact Becca if you are interested in helping.
Yearbooks are here!
Teachers will distribute them this week. Forgot to order one? A limited supply will be available for purchase at the Spring Carnival. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
Mandarin Immersion Camp
Camp will be August 13-17 this year at Expo. There are links on the school webpage to sign-up for camp (8:30a to 3p) and extended-day care (3p to 5p) on the school website.
Next PTA General Meeting
When: Thursday, May 17, at 6p
Where: Jie Ming Cafeteria
Topic: 2018-19 Planning, Officer Installation, China Night (face time with sister school)
Planning is underway for our move to Homecroft next year. At our May meeting, we'll build on the brainstorming session in March by prioritizing the initiatives that people are most passionate about pursuing. Everyone is welcome to participate in the discussion.
PTA Planning Discussions
At the March PTA meeting parents and staff brainstormed programming ideas for our young and growing program. View the complete list of ideas generated at the March meeting.
New PTA Officer Elected
The Jie Ming PTA is governed by a board. The PTA members elected officers for the 2018-19 school year. They are:
President: Adam Jass
Vice President: Dara Ayodele
Secretary: Leah Young
Treasurer: Georgie Slade
The new officers will be installed at the May 17th PTA meeting. A big thank you to Adam, Dara, Leah, and Georgie taking on these leadership positions. Thank you as well to our out-going officers: Ming Chen and Joe Waln.
With the shift to a 9:30am start time in the fall of 2018, many Jie Ming families are wondering how they will manage before and after school logistics. Discovery Club is one option for before and/or after school care for Jie Ming students.
For 2018-19, Discovery Club plans to accommodate Jie Ming students at the Highland Elementary site. This is based on the assumption that there will not be enough Jie Ming families to justify a separate Discovery Club site at the Homecroft building. We would need approximately 45 students to sign up for before and after school care for Discovery Club to consider starting new site at Homecroft.
So, if you are planning to use Discovery Club next year, please register soon so program organizers can plan accordingly. Having before and after school care on-site will bring parents into our new school on a daily basis, which will make our community stronger.
Please take a moment to go through your child's school clothes and check tags to make sure they haven't acquired something from a classmate. A few parents have noticed items like sweaters at school have gone missing.
